Deck The Halls in Festive Cumbria

Our new 'Deck The Halls' tour stays on the Cumbrian Coast in a picturesque setting overlooking Morecambe Bay and includes a nostalgic steam railway journey through spectacular winter scenery, a relaxing cruise on Windermere, a visit to the Lakeland Motor Museum plus, two magnificent stately homes adorned with an array festive wreaths, candles, baubles and sparkling lights, perfect to get us in the Christmas spirit!

DAY 1

We arrive at Grange-over-Sands station and transfer the short distance to the Cumbria Grand Hotel, in its picturesque location on the Cumbrian coast.

DAY 2

This morning we travel by train along the wonderful Cumbria coastline from Grange-over-Sands to Carnforth, here we enjoy a brief visit to the restored 1940's Station Heritage Centre from the scene of the famous film "Brief Encounter". We continue by private coach to the traditional seaside resort of Morecambe where we have free time for lunch at leisure and to take a stroll along the seafront promenade. In the afternoon we travel to the historic yet homely, Leighton Hall for an atmospheric candlelit tour of the house traditionally decorated for Christmas, following the tour we enjoy warming mulled wine and mince pies by a roaring open fire. We return to our hotel by train from Carnforth.

DAY 3

Our private coach takes us the short journey to beautiful Bowness on Windermere, from here we take a leisurely cruise to the southern tip of Lake Windemere. In the afternoon take a trip down memory lane with a visit to the Lakeland Motor Museum, complete with a 1920's garage, 1950's café and over 140 classic cars and motorbikes plus, the fascinating Campbell Bluebird Exhibition. We then return aboard our private coach to Grange-over-Sands.

DAY 4

Today we travel north to Ravenglass on the scenic Cumbrian Coast for our visit to Muncaster Castle. Here we enjoy a guided tour of the impressive Great Hall and elegant state rooms decked out in an array of festive finery. Following our fascinating tour, a warming soup and sandwich light lunch is served at the castle. In the afternoon we enjoy a journey on the nearby Ravenglass & Eskdale Steam Railway, affectionally known as the 'Ratty'. We will disembark for delicious mulled wine and mince pies at Dalegarth station before our 40 minute steam journey back to Ravenglass. We can sit back, relax, and enjoy more wonderful winter costal vistas as we return to our hotel by coach for our final evening.

DAY 5

Bidding farewell to Grange-over-Sands we depart for homeward destinations.

Set in 20 acres of private gardens and woodlands overlooking Morecambe Bay and just a short walk from Grange-over-Sands, this 3-star Victorian hotel has a great location. The bedrooms are traditional in style and the spacious restaurant has fabulous views. There is a lounge/bar area, tennis court, putting green, snooker table, table tennis, dart board and woodland walk trail.
