Depart London by Eurostar to Brussels where after a lunchtime break we continue via Frankfurt to Kassel where we have a welcome evening meal and two night's accommodation at the Inter City hotel.

This morning we travel on a standard gauge steam excursion to over the Hessencourrier line between Kassel and Naumburg. This delightful line features stock dating back to the 19th century through to the 1950's to give an authentic journey of a Hessian train travelling along a scenically picturesque route.

We travel by scheduled train to Nordhausen, here we join the HSB and catch the metre gauge steam train of the Harzer Schmalspurbahnen for a scenic ride over the Harzquerbahn section of line through thick wooded forests in this heartland of Germany undisturbed by progress to Drei Annen Hohn, Here we change steam trains and steam onwards down the hillside to the beautiful picture-box town of Wernigerode and our tour base at the Alt-Wernigeroder-hof hotel. The remainder of the afternoon is free to either explore the town or continue with a steam journey back to Drei Annen Hohne and return. The main locomotive shed for the HSB is at Wernigerode and has a excellent viewing platform to watch the comings and goings of locomotives moving on and off shed.

Today we have a fabulous full day of steam on the delightful rural section of Harz line known as the Selethal. We commence by travelling on the scheduled regional train to Quedlinburg where we board a HSB steam train on the rural Selkethalbahn to Alexisbad where the steam locomotive runs round the train before taking the train back as far as Gernrode. After a lunchtime break we steam back to Alexisbad then onwards over the Selkethal line via Stiege to the branch line terminus at Hasselfelde. From Hasselfelde our steam train returns to Stiege and continues to Eisfelder Talmühle. At Eisfelder Talmühle we will enjoy a light evening meal in the station buffet, after which we board the evening railcar for the direct journey back to Wernigerode.

Today we storm the Brocken by steam. The Brocken is the highest mountain in Germany and we enjoy the thrill of the locomotive working flat out as it circumnavigates its way to the summit. After a short break for sightseeing and photography you have the choice of returning aboard the steam train direct to Wernigerode, or alighting at the junction station of Drei Annen Hohne to enjoy an afternoon photographing and experiencing the steam trains arriving and departing from this scenic location before re-boarding a steam train service to Wernigerode.

Today you have a free day in beautiful Wernigerode there's the towns fairytale castle overlooking the town or maybe visit the aircraft museum or the model village.

We travel by train to Klostermansfeld to enjoy a private steam photo charter with run-pasts and photo stops on the Mansfelder Bergwerkbahn, Germany's oldest narrow-gauge railway, which opened in 1880. This 750 mm railway is 11 km long and operates through pleasant rural scenery. We will also be having a guided tour of the MaLoWa railway shed before enjoying a goulash soup lunch. Our afternoon visit takes us by train to Stassfurt for a tour of the traditional standard gauge mainline shed which currently hosts 5 locomotives including Class 44 1486. Here we have arranged for a barbecue meal with the volunteers of the railway at their depot before returning by train to Wernigerode

This morning we travel by train to Blankenburg for a fabulous steam experience thrashing our way up the steeply inclined line in the Harz mountains known as the Rübeland a freight only branch and a former through route to Drei Annen Hohn. With the brute of a 2-10-2 loco ex Prussian Class 95 027, accompanied by a cacophony of sound, this is a journey not to be missed.

Departing Wernigerode travelling by train via Goslar, Hannover and Cologne to Brussels then Eurostar to London to conclude a truly brilliant steam tour.
